BORGO PASS - Powered By Sludge
Borgo Pass shows great diversity on ”Powered By Sludge”. They're not
afraid to slow things down and do more laidback songs. And when they rock...
they rock.
If you wanna check out one of their heavier songs, go right ahead to the MP3
Jukebox and download ”Meat Wallet”...
After the Sludge/Stoner Rock song ”Meat Wallet” have set the tone for the
album comes a song called ”Afterbirth” that reminds me of Alice In Chains
in one of their more laidback songs at first... but Borgo Pass takes the song
in a slightly different direction...
The intro for ”Drunkards Doom” is a bit reminiscent of Lowrider´s Texas,
but then it turns into something a bit more Grunge sounding. ”Off The Kings
Head” and ”Kitchen” are two more heavy rock tracks with a slight Alice
In Chains vibe, which is cool by me, since I think AIC is kinda underrated
nowadays...
”Bellysmack” takes the same route as the other songs, but there might be a
touch more ”modern” metal influences in this one. ”Second Story” makes
me notice something about Ed Sebastian´s song style... it might be reminiscent
of Layne Staley's but there's also a touch of John Garcia's intonation... it's
a good voice anyways...
The music of bands like Tad comes to mind when listening to ”Saloon Burn”,
don't get me wrong... I think Borgo Pass are doing their own thing, but there's
traces of other bands stuff in their music... as in every bands music... I
think Borgo Pass are at their best when they slow things down a bit... only to
explode into heavy riffs and all... like in ”Revelation”...
”Beer Garden” have a slight country rock / pop vibe with a little bit of
psychedelia to top it of. To close the album Borgo Pass have chosen a live
recording from CBGB´s of the song ”Red Eye”, it might lack that punch
that a really good live recording have, but it gives you a pretty good idea
about how Borgo Pass sound live...
