To distance of three years from the remarkable MCD "Slightly
Damaged", here the return the American Borgo Pass. Authors
of a sludge sweat and being able, this quintet of New York
has distinguished in the course of the years for a musical
production of certain quality. I advise to the reader of to
give a look to the review of "Slightly Damaged", present in
the files of Shapeless. To its inside it is possible to
find, in fact, a spacious biography of the band. In this
seat, you suffice to know that the Borgo Pass the platforms
of half hour pressed on America, collecting approvals a
little one wherever and sharing the platform with band of
high level. The formation, consolidated and with years of
gavetta to the shoulders, sees always James Tamarazzo to the
voice, Tom Crane and Paul Rosado to the guitars, YT to the
low one and Joe Wood to the battery. Recorded at the studio
The Coop of Freeport, NY, under the supervision of Chris It,
"Nervous" is the new album of the Borgo Pass. The covered
one is, like to the usual, different one from what could be
waited for us from a group sludge. It is representative a
gothic cemetery, where an individual in black tunic,
strolling between the graves, sustains the lacking body
senses of an attractive girl. The I turn of this person is
out of focus, moved. Well, a curious artwork than little has
to that to do with what decorates the back of the covered
one, that is helicopters, a military targhetta and of the
men in trench (I recall to the war of the Vietnam, to the
base of the text of the song "American Horror Story"). The
booklet contains texts, photography and thanks. Between the
notes, outstanding the memory of "Dimebag" Darrel, in large
past friend and estimatore of the group. Another note
advises of "to listen to this work to a crazy high volume".
How not to give straight line to this advice, eheh? I I did
it and I would say that it the trouble is been worth of it!
Above all because the quality of the record it is perfect,
and in second place because the music of the Borgo Pass
splits! Yes, expensive readers, if already "Slightly
Damaged" had convinced me, with "Nervosa" the Borgo Pass
show to be a band really cazzuta!
The CD is opened with a shotgun from palpitation: "Wrong Man" and the title-track. Sin from the first riff, it is understood that also this time the nuovayorkesi did not betray the actual numi you protect: Down, Corrosion Of Conformity and Crowbar. The flus stoner have reduced, for lasciar I space alone to the riff pesantissimi and precise, to the dry structure of the songs, to the rhythmic one cadenced and being able. Between the two songs, "Nervous" it is the better one and I retain is justified its choice like title-track. The riff I am of author and the piece is blood and vibrating like never. But also "Wrong Man" is a composition of high level. In both the cases, the guitars do the part of the lion with a sound lowered, muddy and torrid, that pure pride southerner oozes! The rhythmic section is implacable and does not blunder a blow. In more, the vocals of James have done even more gotten angry and forceful. Well, the engine of the Borgo Pass works to full turns! "Dead Summer" is a more reflective piece, where the sound seems to sweeten itself a minimum. In reality, the group returns to beat, even though the rhythmic one is except for sent that in priority, and the violence you are alternated with more reflective parts. Between the other, farewell the trouble to signal the good solos of the guitarists, that embellish every composition. The nerves return to do uncovered with the successive one "Follow Me To Nowhere", that a piece of the Mule seems added with dynamite, before tranquilizing itself again with the seeds-ballad "Last To Know". In these circumstances, the singer is shown very expressive and speaks directly to the heart of the listeners. Pure filthy sludge with the best "Acedown", an of the tracks more dragging some album. To its heaviness it is countered the quickness of the "Warchild", the song more influences from Pepper Keenan and partners. Also the sung it is except for gotten angry. Other value of songs of couple are the successive "Rid Myself Of You" and "14 Days That Killed Me Slow" : more introspettiva the first one, more "straight-in-your-face" the second one. Both excellent pieces. After the short acoustic one "Bad Mother Ocean", the CD finds its conclusion in the weird one "American Horror Story". It is discussed some piece more weighing in absolute, comparable to the episodes more suffocating some Crowbar, distant years light from the typical style Borgo Pass. The arrangiamento is enriched from the trumpet of Chris It. "Nervous" it is a fresh album, full of grim expression and that it is done to appreciate also after repeated listening. The group is not specially original, but knows how it is played the sludge and respects of it the rents with faithfulness. In more, it has from its an enviable songwriting! I wonder like a very capable group is able to be still without contract! It is a true unjustice, seen what us propongono the large distributors! I think that the group of New York is conscious of this its paradoxical situation, seen the melancholy of the texts. The fan adore them, the large groups respect them, but they are still there to do gavetta. The life is a bad joke. The Borgo Pass know that to survive, is necessary to fight. They are doing it with everything their force! Large! (Hellvis - September 2005) |
